Quarter sawn white oak is produced from cutting the white oak tree on the axis, then cutting it flat, reveiling an exception grain pattern that is exciting and traditional. It is used in antique furniture thoughout Europe and North America. This form of cutting produces strong and sable wood, but has beautiful "rays" that radiate across the board . Making a very desirable effect. Quarter sawn white oak is used by Gustav Stickley in creating his classic Mission style or craftsman style furniture.
I usually stain all these cases a medium or dark finish to enhance the beautiful grain.
